Summary of Project

Students will create a word document on their hero.  Students will import an original piece of artwork into their word documents. Stories will be uploaded to this wiki.

Procedures

1.  Email Mel or Gail to notify them that you are participating.  Sorry we don't have a sign up form.  This is our first project.  I am sure we will get more advanced as we go along.

2.  Choose a story to either read to your class or have your class read for themselves.  Suggestions are provided on the Suggestions of Literature page.

3.  Download the Inspiration template found here. Use the template to have your students plan their presentation.   My Hero Planning.ist

4.  Students create original artwork to illustrate examples of their heroes.  Artwork must be orignal.  No photos or clip art please.  Artwork can be created using paints, crayons, or colored pencils.  Students may also use MS paint.  Each student should create one picture.  If you use MS paint, you will not need to later scan the artwork onto the server.

(Note:  One suggestion is to ask the art teacher to have students create the picture of their hero during art class.)

5.  Artwork must be scanned onto the hard drive.  Gail and Mel will be happy to show you how to do this.  If our schedules permit, we would even be willing to scan some of your artwork for you.  However, on of our goals is to show you how to use your school's scanner.  For older students, the easies place to house the artwork is on the school server.  Most of the older students (3-5)  know how to access the shared folders on the school servers.  Only a brief reminder should be necessary.

For younger students, it may be easier to house all artwork on your flashdrive.  The work can be set up in the classroom on one computer.  Students can take turns coming over to the computer to type in their sentence(s) about their hero.

6.  Students will then import their artwork into thier documents and add text.

7.  Save the student's documentss back onto the server, CD, or flashdrive.  Floppy disks are not recommended!

8.  Upload the stories onto the wiki.  When you register, Mel or Gail will email you an access to the wiki.

9.  Email Gail or Mel that you are finished.

Internet Safety Reminders

Students may label their presentations with their initials only.  Do not allow them to write their name out on anything, including artwork.  Student presentations which display student names will not be included on the showcase page.  Take this opportunity to reinforce with your students the fact that we never share ASL on the net.  ASL stands for age, sex, or location.  We also keep private photos of ourselves and our name.
